OVI / DUI
defense.

Questions about your license, a court date or the evidence can arrive all at once. Start with a clear review of the stop, the paperwork and what happens next.

OVI / DUI DEFENSE

The charge is only the beginning of the analysis.

An OVI matter can involve the traffic stop, field observations, chemical testing, video, statements, administrative consequences and the underlying reason an officer initiated contact. Each part of that record can raise different questions for counsel.

01 · THE STOP

Start with why the encounter happened.

The sequence begins before testing. The circumstances surrounding the stop or other police contact can matter, including what the officer reported observing and what was documented at the scene.

  • Reason given for the traffic stop or contact
  • Officer observations and recorded statements
  • Dash-camera, body-camera or other available video
  • Timeline from initial contact through arrest

02 · THE EVIDENCE

Look at the record, not just the allegation.

OVI cases can involve several different kinds of evidence. The value of that evidence depends on the circumstances in which it was obtained and what the complete record actually shows.

  • Field sobriety observations
  • Breath, blood or urine testing when applicable
  • Police reports and supplemental reports
  • Video, photographs and dispatch records when available

03 · THE PROCESS

Know what comes next.

An arrest can create overlapping practical concerns: the criminal case itself, driving privileges, upcoming hearings and decisions about how to respond to the evidence. Early review helps organize those issues before important dates pass.

04 · THE DEFENSE REVIEW

Build from facts that can be tested.

A defense review can include several steps: establish the chronology, obtain the available record, compare reports with video and other evidence, identify issues that require legal analysis, and prepare for the next procedural step.

No particular outcome can be promised. Every matter depends on its own facts, evidence and procedural history.

DISCUSS THE SITUATION

Bring the timeline, paperwork and questions.

If you have been arrested or charged, the contact path should make it easy to begin a direct conversation about what happened and what comes next.
